Summertime in Kelowna

Summer in Kelowna is full of energy. Live music in local parks, adrenaline inducing activities, icy cocktails and hand-crafted treats all add to days spent on the lake and nights at the waters edge. Here's a sample of a few summertime activities to make a Kelowna story worthy summer.

Out All Night

Hot summer nights in Kelowna should start with chilled craft brews. Visit one of Kelowna’s Ale Trail stops to kick off a night out. Red Bird Brewing regularly hosts crib tournaments, Kettle River Brewing has recently added live music nights to their calendar, and this summer BNA Brewing Co’s awaited (bowling alley) expansion will have you knocking back pints and pins. Live music lovers should check out Fernando’s Pub (locally touted as Kelowna’s top live music venue) and Doc Willoughby’s. Another must visit is Munnin’s Post for their eclectic line up of events including drag nights and metal Mondays. Looking for the perfect dates to visit Kelowna for great days and packed nights? Visit during one of Kelowna’s summer outdoor music festivals in the heart of downtown Kelowna. Center of Gravity (July 27-29) combines sport and popular music and Rock the Lake (Aug 10-12) pumps classic rock to get you amped.

Water’s Edge

Okanagan Lake is the ultimate summer must do. Get out and enjoy the morning calm as you kayak or paddleboard along the shoreline. Stop at one of Kelowna’s more than 30 beaches to sun bathe and dip in. Keep the water in arms reach at OAK + CRU Social Kitchen and Wine Bar while you nibble on locally farmed fare and sip craft cocktails. Up the tempo for the afternoon with a wave ripping ride from Evoke Wake Adventures or soar above it all withOgopogo Parasail. Get the kids in on the action (or let your inner kid shine) at the Wibit Water Park. Dine lakeside on the picturesque Hotel Eldorado Boardwalk Patio (stay after the sun goes down on Friday and Saturday for a light show, on the water, from Okanagan Flyboard.) Top it all off by roasting s'mores out on the water with Maeg’s BBQ Boats.

Sweet on Kelowna

Doesn’t planning a visit to Kelowna around treats sound enticing? Kelowna is home to some delectable hand-crafted sweets that your tummy will thank you for, and with extensive cycling networks, walking paths and hiking trails, working them off is a breeze too. In downtown Kelowna, a walk on the waterfront boardwalk or down Bernard Ave’s boutique lined streets pairs best with Parlour Ice Cream. The small-batch sweet maker collaborates with a number of Kelowna producers to create uniquely Kelowna flavours. Knox Mountain is a local hiking fave; see the views at the top and you’ll know why. Situated at the base of the mountain is Karat Chocolate; ready with your post sweat sugar intake. High caliber chocolate bon bons, bars, truffles and pops with innovative flavor profiles and local flourishes delight. Need a caffeine fix? Visit neighbor roastery Canoe Coffee Roasters for the perfect pour over. Cycling from Waterfront Park down the idyllic Abbott Street corridor is a draw on its own. It’s made better if you stop at the 3km mark at Waterfront Café. Fresh daily pastries, canelés, and tarts showcasing seasonal fruit and local honey will tempt; and sell-out donut Thursday’s will have you peddling fast to get there in time.
