Cosmetic surgeries are growing in popularity across the globe. While many of these procedures have been performed for decades, the number of people who elect to take advantage of them has sky-rocketted. From breast augmentation surgery to total facial reshaping, cosmetic surgeries are all the buzz right now.

With the years of practice and refining of surgical procedures, there are less risks involved when compared to 10 or 20 years ago. Not to mention that many of these treatments have become easier — physically, financially, and emotionally — than you may think! In no particular order, here are the top 10 most popular cosmetic surgeries.

1. Liposuction

Liposuction is a common surgical procedure used to remove unwanted fat from certain areas of the body. The purpose of this surgery is to provide you with a slimmer silhouette. There are various kinds of liposuction methods that work to remove fat from your body. Here are the top methods of liposuction:

  1. Tumescent Liposuction: otherwise known as a fluid injection, tumescent liposuction is the most common technique. It’s accomplished by injecting a large amount of medicated solution into an area of your body. The fluid is made up of a combination of local anesthetic, epinephrine, and IV salt solution. Once the area is numb and the epinephrine has restricted blood flow, the solution and fat can then be removed much easier through suction.
  1. Super-Wet Liposuction: This technique is similar to tumescent, however there is less fluid used during surgery. While this method takes less time to do, it does require a sedative or general anesthesia.
  1. Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction: This technique introduces ultrasonic vibrations to your body to turn specific fat cells into liquid. Once the fat turns to liquid, it can be vacuumed out with ease. While effective, ultrasound-assisted liposuction may require a follow up procedure for greater precision.
  1. Laser-assisted liposuction: Rather than using ultrasonic vibrations, the laser-assisted technique uses laser energy to liquefy fat cells. Again, this liquid can then be vacuumed out through a small tube. This technique is better on confined areas such as the chin or face.

2. Breast Augmentation

As mentioned earlier, breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular procedures across the globe. This surgery involves either the enlargement, replacement, or adjustment of asymmetrical breast size. There are a wide range of options to choose from when considering breast augmentation surgery. From the type of implant to the incision and placement of the implant, you can be quite specific with this procedure.

Like any other surgery, it’s important to consult with a trusted plastic surgeon about your options, risks involved, and recommended aftercare.

3. Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty, better known as eyelid surgery, is a lesser-known but still very popular cosmetic surgery. As we age, our eyelids tend to get saggy or wrinkled over time. Eyelid surgery can be done to either enhance your overall facial appearance or to improve your vision in extreme cases of eyelid sagginess.

Blepharoplasty also includes a lower-lid procedure if necessary. During this surgery, fat pads under the eyes can be removed to reduce the look of eye bags. Overall, the purpose of blepharoplasty is to reduce the look of puffy or wrinkled eyelids, giving your face and eyes a more youthful appearance.

4. Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck or lower body lift is a procedure to remove excess skin from your abdominal area and tighten the remaining skin. This cosmetic surgery is commonly done on people who have excess skin following extreme weight loss or pregnancy.

Tummy tucks can be done using 3 main techniques: a complete abdominoplasty, a partial abdominoplasty, and a laparoscopic procedure (minimally invasive). The recovery rate depends on the technique used.

5. Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery is one of the few cosmetic surgeries that can be fully or partially covered by insurance. For medical reasons, women may choose to undergo breast reduction if their breasts are too big or heavy. This may result in chronic back pain and postural changes.

Breast reductions are accomplished by removing excess fat surrounding the breast, glandular tissue, and skin to create a smaller breast size. This procedure is accomplished through liposuction to remove fat and reshape the breast shape to achieve a more natural look.

6. Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job, is a procedure used to reshape the nose to create a better balance with the rest of the face. Typically this surgery is done for cosmetic reasons; however, in the case of a deviated septum where breathing becomes an issue, insurance will cover some or all surgical costs.

7. Rhytidectomy (Face Lift)

A rhytidectomy surgery, otherwise known as a face lift, is a procedure used to reduce the look of sagging or wrinkles on the face. As a product of ageing, men and women oftentimes resort to a facelift to tighten the skin, smooth out any deep lines, and minimize the look of sagging. This cosmetic procedure helps to give you a more youthful appearance, much like the blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery.

8. Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

Another breast-focused cosmetic surgery is a mastopexy (breast lift). This surgery is used to treat saggy or poorly shaped breasts. a mastopexy helps to give you a perkier, more youthful appearance. Breast lifts are commonly done after significant weight loss, pregnancy, or breast reduction.

Much like breast augmentation surgery, a breast lift will use three main methods of incision: around the areola, around and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease, or horizontally along the breast crease.

9. Forehead Lift

Much like a facelift, a forehead lift can be done to pull the skin of your forehead tighter to remove wrinkles and deep creases. This procedure also helps to pull up drooping eyebrows, correct for “hooded” eyelids, improve the look of frown lines, and more. Overall, a forehead lift surgery can improve the look of your face, giving you back the confidence you deserve.

10.Gynecomastia Treatment

Last but not least is the gynecomastia treatment. This cosmetic surgery is a permanent treatment for men who wish to reduce the size of their breast tissue. Due to a condition known as gynecomastia, some men experience excessive swelling or enlargement of their breast tissue. In some cases, this can occur after regular use of steroids or marijuana. Similar to how a breast reduction is accomplished in women, a gynecomastia treatment is also performed using liposuction to remove excess fat
