Healthy-looking curls start with healthy attitudes and the right preparation. Getting beautiful and healthy curls at the same time is not easy. To make them stay in this state until the end of the evening, without ruining them with extra sprays, sometimes seems impossible. In this article, we’ll give you a step-by-step guide on how to make your curls keep healthy and last for a long time just the way you want them.
Choose a quality styling tool
If you want your hair to stay healthy, the tool you use should be safe and effective. Such a device warms the strand, which means that the hair is more susceptible to thermal processing.
There are many curling tool options to choose from. You can get a curling iron, hair curler, or any other modern device. However, the most popular and sparing way to curl your hair is a flat iron. Using the iron allows you to get different types of hair curls:
- Classic large curls;
- Beach style curls.
If you have such an iron with a ceramic coating, you can adjust the heating temperature and create the style you love. Flat irons are also good for any type of hair. If you have thick, thin, or fine hair, a flat iron will work for them perfectly.
Healthy tips on how to choose the best flat iron for fine hair:
- Ceramic coating is the best price/quality option. It generates heat over the entire surface of the plates and glides well. However, the hair care products stick to it, so wipe the plates with a damp cloth immediately after use;
- The smaller and thinner your iron is, the stronger your locks will be. Select large-diameter irons if you want to create light waves. In order not to make a mistake with the choice, think in advance about what effect you want to get;
- Focus on the shape of the device. It should be somewhat rounded or oval. A rectangular iron with straight edges is not able to create beautiful voluminous curls because they will inevitably have a broken shape.
The right choice of flat iron is a guarantee that you will easily create your favorite hairstyles with minimal harm to your hair. Therefore, pay attention to this point and don’t try to save. Remember: your hair has to stay healthy.
Proper hair preparation
Before you start, it is necessary to prepare your hair with the right hair treatment. Perfectly clean hair does not make it possible to create curls that would last longer than an hour. Therefore, we recommend to wash them the day before. It is also important to look at the composition of the shampoo that you use. Don’t take moisturizing or super-cleansing (‘clarifying’) shampoos to wash your hair. The first option covers the hair with a thin layer of silicones, which then straighten the curl, and the second makes the hair too vulnerable.
The best choice is a shampoo for volume (they lift the hair at the roots). If your hair ends are dry and broken, don’t forget to apply the conditioner or hair balm. If you have fine hair, then you can go without conditioner, but it’s better to use heat protection. Generally, the heat protection should be used no matter which type of hair you own. Dry shampoos, texturing varnishes, and sprays with sea salt will help you to make curls more resistant and give hair extra volume.
After you curled each strand into a beautiful lock, use a hairspray. Apply it at a distance of 10-15 cm from your hair. If you do not want a stable styling, choose a spray with a marine effect. After you spray the hair, leave it for 20 minutes. Later, you can spread them with your fingers or a small comb.
