Bad habits are hard to break and good habits are hard to start. The key to achieving both is by making small changes every day that are easy to manage. One day you will look back and realize that you have managed to do both without even realizing it. Some habits are harder to break than others, like smoking for example, but the hardest ones are usually the ones that are the worst to keep. Here are 5 health habits to start today, you will be glad you did before the end of the year.

1. Water Is Your Friend

Adding just one extra glass of water to your day will do wonders for your overall wellbeing. Water helps your body and mind in countless ways, for the sake illustrating my point I will unpack just 3 of the most noticeable benefits of more H2O. Water helps dissolve vitamins and minerals, which makes them more accessible to your body, it also helps remove waste products that would otherwise make you feel sluggish and uninspired. Finally, water can improve your entire mood as well as your memory.

2. Take 10 Minutes to Walk

Walking is one of the best health habits you can form today. Even if you just go for a 10 minute walk every day, that is enough to do wonders for your cardiovascular health. Walking helps you clear your mind, reduces water retention and is a marvellous stress reliever. Take your pooches with if you can, they will really appreciate it and it will help all of you live a longer and happier life.

3. Brush Twice Daily

Many people only brush their teeth in the morning, this is not recommended by professionals, including a Burlington dentist, or your partner! Get into the habit of brushing at night before bed. If you are feeling inspired, you can add some flossing into the mix as well. Brushing is one of the best health habits and helps remove the cavity causing monsters, otherwise known as plaque, off your teeth. As a bonus, your breath will be fresher too!

4. Practice Mindfulness

Being mindful doesn’t have to be something to mock your friends about. Whether you choose to meditate or just stop to watch the clouds, it is entirely up to you – do what you are comfortable with. Being mindful is just about taking the time out of your manic schedule to centre yourself and find meaning in your actions. All it takes is you being aware of your thoughts, emotions and how you are feeling, both physically and mentally. There is no right or wrong way to be mindful, it is a personal thing – just do what feels good for your soul.

5. Reduce Screen Time

Switch your devices off half an hour before you normally do. Everything you need to see or read will still be there in the morning. Reducing screen time before bed has been known to improve the quality of your sleep and it will do wonders for your relationship and is a great health habit. Instead of being mindless scrolling zombies, choose to connect with each other and add value to the time you spend together.
