The amount of people using marijuana has been increasing ever since it was made legal to do so, for both medical and recreational purposes. Because of all this, many people who have drug tests coming up at work, try to find the best solution to detox from THC. However, with so much ‘advice’ on the internet on how to do it, understanding what actually works can be pretty challenging, which is why we are here.

As experts claim, ‘More than 22 million people used marijuana in the United States as of 2015. Lawmakers in 40 states have currently made it legal to use marijuana, and have made it available for medical purposes or decriminalized it. Even with these significant changes, a myriad of organizations across the country still includes marijuana use as a part of their company drug testing policies.’

Unfortunately, we have bad news – even if you didn’t consume marijuana before, during or after a workday, if you did it a few days prior, THC which is the psychoactive component of cannabis, can still be detectable in your body. What’s more, despite marijuana being somehow legal in most of the states, the FDA still hasn’t approved it as a way of treatment, which means that technically, it should still be treated as a drug.

We gathered information about a few of the things that supposedly help your body in detoxification, and decided to find out on our own. Want to know what we discovered? All you have to do is keep reading then.

How Long Does THC Stay in Your System?

First thing you’d probably want to know is how much time it takes for your body to get rid of THC on its own, without any help. The truth is that there are many factors influencing it, but generally speaking, THC can be detectable in:

  • Urine – up to a week if you’re a moderate smoker; up to a month if you use pot frequently
  • Blood and saliva – usually up to a few days; for chronic users can be up to a month
  • Hair – up to three months. A hair drug test is the most reliable type; however, it is not used very often.

Do Detox Drinks Help?

The answer to this question is kind of. They do work temporarily – for example, if you need to pass a drug test at work – but in the long run, they will not help your body get rid of the THC. Also, a lot depends on the person using it – or rather on their age, weight, genetics, diet, and many other factors.

Another thing that can determine whether the test will come out positive or negative is its type, with the urine test being the most common one.

Does Working Out Help?

Working out can help you detox from THC. The reason behind it is that exercising burns fat, and THC is stored in your fat cells. While working out, consider wearing more layers, so that you can sweat even more than you would normally. Also, drink a lot of fluids, and try to eliminate fatty foods and sugar from your diet.

However, there is one important thing you need to know – if you are due to take a drug test, you should stop working out a few days prior to it. That’s because, during your workout, THC from your fat cells is being released to your blood. THC stored in your fat cells will not cause you to fail a drug test. THC in your bloodstream? That’s a whole different story.

What Will Not Help With Detoxing From THC

While the two methods we have mentioned above will help you get rid of THC in one way or another, there are many that are just pure bogus. Those include:

  • cranberry juice
  • detox tea
  • vinegar
  • niacin Detox
  • bleach (probably the craziest one – do not, in any circumstances, try to ingest bleach)

Unfortunately, most information about ‘quick fixes’ for detoxing is wrong and based on myths, which many people believe. If you see somewhere an ad or an article about how to flush THC out of your body in a day, remember that detoxification is quite a lengthy process, that will not happen this fast.

Final Thoughts

While there are some very questionable methods on the internet regarding how to detox your body from THC, there are also some that actually work – such as detox drinks or exercising. The important thing is to know which ones are trustworthy, and which ones not really.

That’s why the first thing you need to do when finding out about ‘a new, magical method’ is to verify information with a reliable source – this way you’ll be able to avoid getting harmed. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry, isn’t it?
