Health is Wealth, an age-old saying we’ve heard and obeyed to our best to date. But, in these uncertain times, it is getting tough to stay fit while working from home. Since being widely dependent on the outside world for fitness, this lockdown has rendered us helpless.

Gyms, Jogging Tracks, Yoga Studios were our go-to for fitness sessions, but with them closed, we are missing out a lot. Also, a sudden change to remote working makes us lazy, which diminishes our fitness.

Even though we don’t get much time in standard working days, we do tend to stay active with outside life. But with a complete lockdown, it’s different. These are tricky times that we live in, wherein we must stay indoors for our wellbeing and our society’s wellbeing.

So, is there any alternative where we can make up for our lost fitness while obeying lockdown?

Yes, there is. Its fitness at home. Here are a few pointers on how you can stay fit while working from home during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Ways to Stay Fit While Working from Home during the Covid-19

Walk before you run

We understand that not every one of you will be into exercising, and that’s fine. But it would be best if you take the initiative.

While working from home, start a habit of exercising in the middle of daily activities. It can be a few push-ups while waiting for the microwave to cook, squats before making the bed, cardio while watching television, etc.

Who says you need to devote an entire session to a workout? Mix it up with your daily activities. Also, turn up the music while exercising because listening to music increases performance to a whole new level.

Daily chores

Being fit doesn’t only mean exercising and doing yoga. Your daily chores can burn calories to make you fit as well, so don’t sweat it.

So, put on some music and get to it. Be it dusting, vacuuming, mopping, car washing, scrubbing, etc. Feel good about these activities because it is part of a fitness routine as well.

If you are not getting enough time to work out, make it a point to carry out your daily chores without fail.

The inner kid

As kids, we all loved to play. So why not get back to it? Find some time to play with your siblings in your backyard. Be it a game of tag, climbing trees, playing with your dog, etc.

Things are even better when you have a sibling with whom you can play games for a fun workout.

Backyard Playground

Not all of us will have a vast backyard to play around in, but if you do, utilize it. Build a small cricket ground, a swing, etc. You can play your favorite games, or you can practice some arm-toning exercises for a fitter lifestyle.

Your imaginations only limit the options you have for a fitter lifestyle with an open backyard. Go nuts with it!

Dancing

Most of you will relate to this activity as everyone dances. It can be in the open or in private, depending on the comfort level. Also, dancing helps maintain a fit lifestyle, as well.

It is even more comfortable when you are trying to stay fit with a work-from-home scenario because of the comfort space. Learn Zumba, belly dancing, or even pole dancing if you have the place to mix things up.

Learning a new activity is always fun, and while working from home in a Lockdown, this is vital.

Mental health

Mental health is as important as physical health. Be sure to connect with your friends and family online to talk about things through calls, texts, social media, etc.

Watch a movie from time to time, get into a series, pick up on a hobby you left behind, read that book you always wanted to read, etc.

Be sure to keep your mind engaged in exciting activities other than work. Do what you love. Don’t let working from home or the lockdown suck out all the fun out of your life.

Proper Diet

In an uncertain event of a lockdown, we must pay extra care to our health. It brings us to maintaining a proper diet at all times. Be sure to eat healthy in a lockdown scenario because if you fall ill, adequate healthcare is hard to come by in these scenarios.

Also, a few healthy snacks can help you lose weight and stay fit with your work as well.

Be sure to have plenty of green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, dry fruits, etc. It means a whole lot of spinach, beans, broccoli, eggs, potatoes, bananas, apples, etc.

Sound Sleep

We feel we don’t need to write much about it. After all, this is what we are getting a lot of these days, a good sleep.

But, be cautious not to overdo it. In these days of lockdown, we tend to sleep a lot, but we must limit our sleep to 8 hours.

Calming Activities

With the ongoing situation, we are all aware of the disturbance in the air. In these times, life can be very depressing, especially when you watch the news vigorously for updates.

Take a break from the news and engage in some calming activities. These can be anything from gardening, cooking, puzzles, craft, meditation, carpentry, etc. Make sure to get away from all the negativity once in a while.

These are just some of the many things that you can do while working from home to stay fit.

Other than these, there are also so many online services and products that can help you stay fit and analyze activity.

One of these is the Vantage Fit- An Employee Health and Corporate Wellness App.

Here, you can earn points known as Vantage Points in this app to stay fit.

These are gift vouchers redeemable at Flipkart, Amazon, Myntra, BookMyShow, etc.

You can download the App at Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Conclusion

With this drastic change of worldwide lockdown, things are getting more tensed and confusing. We are not sure when a proper vaccine will be out or when this lockdown would be over. These times often bring out an unhealthy side of us, both physically and mentally.

As commoners, we can only maintain social distancing and hope for a better future. But amidst all these, let’s at least maintain good health to go with it!
