Feeling a bit of wanderlust? Travelling is beneficial for the mind, body, and soul. Yet despite all the positives, travelling can have negative effects including: dehydration, fatigue, and confinement. While it may seem difficult to stay comfortable when you’re on-the-go, it’s not impossible.

People who travel a lot know that comfort is key. Sometimes comfort also means taking days off of work just so you can relax and enjoy yourself without having to worry about deadlines and the routine of like. We all want to be comfortable when we are traveling, but sometimes it isn’t possible and due to certain circumstances we need to undergo some level of discomfort in order to stay safe and reach our destination quickly and efficiently (unless you’re able to get an upgrade to the pod compartments with the lie flat seats.)

Check out our list of tips to take your trip to the next level of comfort and relaxation.

1. Rest

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, think about where you are going, and let all the tension out of your shoulders. It’s okay if you can’t sleep on the trip — try to rest as much as you can because when you arrive at your destination you will be happy that your body was given time to heal instead of dealing with fatigue from driving or not getting enough sleep the night before. Also, the extra rest will give you more energy for all the fun things to come!

Well, of course you don’t want to be miserable on your trip. However, there is a larger reason why you should be comfortable when traveling. It’s because the more relaxed you are on your trip, the better memories you will make. We all know how great it feels to return home from a vacation feeling completely exhausted but extremely excited about the adventures that took place — now reverse this idea and think of how horrible it feels to return from a vacation feeling completely exhausted and frustrated because you were uncomfortable the entire time. Not fun at all!

2. Bring A Toothbrush

If you don’t — you will be miserable by the end of your trip… I think we all know this from personal experience. Also, it never hurts to have some breath mints with you as well. This way, if there is an emergency and no one drives by for a while, forcing you to wait in the hot sun or cold rain — at least your mouth won’t smell bad!

Traveling is something that everyone should find time to do in their lifetime. Whether you’re traveling across the country or just down the street to visit family, use these tips to make your next trip stress-free and more comfortable than ever!

3. Wear Comfortable Shoes

Now don’t get me wrong — if a certain outfit looks amazing on a model, then go for it — but if that doesn’t look good on YOU, then don’t be discouraged from wearing it just because someone on TV said it looks good. Comfort is key! Make sure to wear shoes that fit your feet and clothes that don’t restrict your movement in any way.

New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080v12

If we only made one running shoe, that shoe would be the 1080. What makes the 1080 unique isn’t just that it’s the best running shoe we make, it’s also the most versatile. The 1080 delivers top-of-the-line performance to every kind of runner, whether you’re training for world-class competition, or catching a rush hour train. The Fresh Foam X 1080v12 represents a consistent progression of the model’s signature qualities. The smooth transitions of the pinnacle underfoot cushioning experience are fine-tuned with updated midsole mapping, which applies more foam to wider areas of the midsole and increases flexibility at the narrower points. The ultra-modern outlook is also reflected in the 1080’s upper construction. The v12 offers a supportive, second-skin style fit with an engineered Hypoknit upper, for a more streamlined overall design.

New Balance 574 Rugged

‘The most New Balance shoe ever’ says it all, right? No, actually. The 574 might be our unlikeliest icon. The 574 was built to be a reliable shoe that could do a lot of different things well rather than as a platform for revolutionary technology, or as a premium materials showcase. This unassuming, unpretentious versatility is exactly what launched the 574 into the ranks of all-time greats. As hybrid road/trail design built on a wider last than the previous generation’s narrow racing silhouettes, the 574 offered a uniquely versatile mix of new, different, uncomplicated, rugged, durable, and comfortable that was adopted as a closet staple across the globe. That’s why today, the 574 is synonymous with the boundary defying New Balance style, and worn by anyone. This 574 Rugged edition features durable, rugged materials inspired by the outdoors.

4. Protect Your Skin

Don’t forget sunscreen if it’s bright outside, and wear a scarf or something to cover your neck/face when it’s hot, so the sun doesn’t burn you. Also, if there is no one else around after dark, turn on some lights inside your car, so bugs don’t fly toward you because their only source of natural light is coming from your headlights. And finally — remember that even though there are other people in the vehicle with you — consider yourself alone. Doing this will help calm anxious thoughts about being stuck out in nature by yourself at nighttime.

5. Try Atheisure

If you think athleisure only means brightly colored leggings and slouchy hoodies, think again. Today’s athletically minded apparel companies are designing elevated and sophisticated basics with special features that can benefit travelers. Brands like New Balance have travel-friendly styles including joggers that stretch without losing shape, polished pullovers with secret pockets for travel essentials and pieces made of materials that don’t wrinkle and are stain-resistant. Which means you’ll look as good stepping off the plane as you did boarding it. The best part about choosing activewear for travel? These pieces pack light and are easy to clean, which means you can arrive at your destination and simply toss your travel outfit straight into the washer and dryer.

6. Stay Hydrated

Always bring a bottle of water along and drink it often to stay hydrated. If you feel like you need more than just water, then there is always soda or juice that you can reach for as well. Just remember to only drink the amount your body needs because drinking too much plain water will make your stomach hurt and possibly give you a headache.
