Getting up early and going to work is a struggle many of us face. Sometimes it seems impossible to crawl out of bed and get ready for work. If only you could hit snooze once or twice to catch up on sleep.

What if we told you that you could wake up feeling energized and ready to make the day yours? Would you believe us if we said that you only needed to follow a few simple steps?

This guide offers a few of many tips for seizing your day every day. Take the steps that resonate with you and leave the rest here. Let’s dive right in.

1. Go to Bed and Get Up Earlier

First things first, how much sleep are you getting? If you’re getting between seven and nine hours a night, you’re in the clear. However, just because you lay down at 11 PM and your alarm rings at 7 AM, doesn’t mean that you’re getting eight hours of sleep.

Waking moments are part of every sleep cycle, plus noises, temperature changes, and bathroom requirements could have you waking up.

Aim to be in bed at least thirty minutes before your scheduled sleep time. Give yourself enough time to relax and settle into bed.

On the other side of things, wake up on your first alarm. Snoozing might seem better in the short term but getting physically out of your bed as soon as you’re awake is a mood booster. Set your phone across the room so you have a reason to rise and turn it off.

2. Start the Day with Water

Coffee and tea are delicious beverages that help give you energy in the morning. This guide won’t tell you to give up your caffeine entirely, just in the mornings. After sleeping and no matter how ideal the temperature of the room is, you end up sweating a lot of the previous day’s water away, so you wake up dehydrated.

Plus, you’ve just gone at least 7 hours without water (and with bathroom breaks). Your body craves water when it wakes up. So, instead of getting your coffee pot ready, why not fill up a 16 oz bottle of water?

If you’re feeling more dehydrated than usual, add some salt and lime/lemon to balance your electrolytes. Save the caffeine for lunchtime.

3. Do you Absolutely Need to Drive to Work?

Unless you live more than a thirty-minute drive from your work, consider alternatives to driving. Getting up and moving in the morning is a sure way to feel more awake and own your day. You can take public transportation via bus, train, or subway, depending on where you live.

You can also walk or ride one of many various commuter lightweight e-bikes.

Driving is a sedentary action and isn’t conducive to feeling energized. In some cases, you need to drive to work, and that is understandable. For those situations, try to do some light stretches or exercise in the morning before you leave. Quick yoga, jumping jacks, or a walk to the mailbox are all examples of ways to get you active in the morning.

Now Get Out There and Seize the Day

When it comes to mornings, no one is naturally prepared; we all have to figure out the best ways to wake up that work for us.

If you wake up every day hitting snooze and lounging in bed before rushing to make coffee and get to work, you’re not alone. But, you don’t have to stay trapped in that cycle forever. By making small adjustments, you can own your morning and change your life for the better.
