The recently sparked debate on medical use and benefits of marijuana and the cannabis plant has brought into light the uses of CBD oil. While there is still confusion regarding what it is and what does CBD oil does, researchers have been coming up with new studies to find out the exact effects of CBD oil on human body.

But before we get into its effects, let us first know what CBD oil and endocannabinoid system really are:

CBD Oil : Putting An End To The Surrounding Confusion

CBD oil is extracted from the cannabis sativa plant of the cannabis genus, the same genus where marijuana comes from. However, CBD oil is different from marijuana and so are its effects. How, you ask? The reason behind this is the component called THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, that gives marijuana its psychoactive effect, more generally known as “high”. While Marijuana plants are cultivated through selective breeding in order to retain more TCH component, CBD oil is extracted from plants with inactive or very low amount of THC making it only psychotherapeutic and not psychoactive.

CBD Oil does not create a ‘high’ effect unless it is a marijuana based CBD oil. Other non marijuana oils like hemp oil have very low THC compounds and thus are not psychoactive. You can easily buy CBD oil for its therapeutic and pharmacological effects if your state has legalised its selling and using.

However, since cannabis is not legal in many countries and US states, CBD oil too is illegal there. Within USA, CBD oil is not FDA approved and thus there is no regulation on its purity and contents. Thus it should only be used and consumed in very small amount.

What is Endocannabinoid System?

Although it is not talked about a lot, endocannabinoid system is a very vital system of our body. Ironically, researchers found it while studying the effects of marijuana on human body. The system is responsible of creating internal balance in the body or in other words working towards homeostasis.

In layman’s term, homeostasis is a static state in the internal environment of the body which would not change even if met with external changes. That stable state is the body functioning to its maximum potential. Our body keeps striving to achieve this state through various regulators within our body.

Endocannabinoid system is made up by endocannabinoids and neurotransmitters which are bound to body’s cannabinoid receptors. This system regulates pain, memory, appetite and other sensations and works differently in different organs to achieve that. Thus it is working towards maintaining an equilibrium in the body so that its functioning is not hindered by any outside change. The endocannabinoids increase and decrease depending on the activity of the body and thus regulate how a person feels the sensation.

What CBD Oil Does For Endocannabinoid System

Endocannabinoid system is connected to the CB receptors our body. CBD oil can help endocannabinoid system perform better and increase the use of endocannabinoids so as to make the body work better towards homeostasis.

Most diseases and illnesses that CBD oil has proved to be curing and helping with are somehow connected to this system of our body. CBD oil helps get relief from pain and cure such diseases by influencing the receptors to make this system use more endocannabinoids.

There have been multiple studies that show positive effects of CBD oil in treatment of chronic illnesses like epilepsy, depression, anxiety and fatigue. However, there is still some resistance in open use of this remedy. More studied with stronger conclusions regarding what CBD oil does and clearance of confusion regarding CBD oil can lead to better use of this potential cure-all remedy.
